Menno Simons Christian School was delighted to present a musical interpretation of the well known story, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. We were pleased to welcome students from Glenmore Christian Academy to see the show as well as to present two sold out evening performances.
This performance was a stretching experience for all involved as we sought to push past barriers toward higher levels of quality and complexity in the performing arts.
Integrating 11 microphones with lighting systems and a complex soundtrack required support from many! Student performers pushed past their own insecurities to sing, dance, and even apply some romance to their performances under the direction of Dayle Vienneau, Theo Wiebe and Karen Braun.
Cameron Adams and Tanner Ohlhauser were greeted by praise and applause for their interpretations of Beauty and the Beast, respectively. We are grateful for the support we received from our community and Palliser Regional Schools and are already at work planning next year's performances. (view photos)

Is purple the new green? Maybe. On Earth Day, students at Huntsville School in Iron Springs were seeing purple as Sunnyside Principal Dawn Ronne and teacher Amy McDougall arrived with purple hair, after Sunnyside lost the Great Chilean Challenge to Huntsville.
However, there were no losers in the challenge when you consider more than $7,000 was raised in the schools' fundraising dinner.
With such success to celebrate, Huntsville Principal Marg Van Egmond and Low German Mennonite liaison Dan Doerksen joined in the fun, donning their own purple hair. The four then serenaded students.
The money raised will help four families in Chile build new homes.
Congratulations, Sunnyside and Huntsville! (view photos)

Palliser Regional Schools students were able to meet Dr. Robert Thirsk, the first Canadian astronaut to live in space for a long duration. Thirsk, whose sister Bev Thirsk, teaches at Glenmore Christian Academy, visited students and staff at that Calgary School Feb. 9, 2010.
That same day at a different Calgary school, 17 students from around Palliser region were able to meet the astronaut. These students had the opportunity to speak with Thirsk in a live video downlink in September, the first such connection between Canadian students and the International Space Station.
The students of Palliser were specifically chosen to take part in the live event based on the quality of the questions they wanted to ask the astronaut. Although they were able to see the astronauts aboard the ISS in live video images, the meeting in Calgary was the first opportunity for Dr. Thirsk to see the students with whom he spoke.

Lara Ardeche is the perfect girl—and the prom queen—at her high school. But when allergy medication causes her to gain 50 pounds, her world is transformed—same girl on the inside, different girl on the outside. She's certain she can take off the weight with diet and exercise—it's just a matter of will power. Only Lara just keeps getting fatter.
