Policy Statement:

The Board believes Palliser School Division has always had an unwritten policy prohibiting the purchase of alcohol with public funds. The Board of Trustees in reviewing its responsibilities for providing an education system organized and operated in the best interest of parents and students and to ensure that public resources are used wisely has determined a clear policy statement is required in this area.

Board Action:

There shall be no alcoholic beverages purchased with School Division funds at any time or for any event.

Scope and Limitations of Superintendent:

If it is deemed appropriate, alcoholic beverages may be provided on a fully cash recovery basis, adhering to all legal and societal expectations pertaining to consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Information and Monitoring Requirements:

An annual report shall be provided to the Board on the occasion when a “cash bar” was provided and the circumstances of any such occasion.

Periodically, the School Division Auditors will be requested to scrutinize the invoices to determine compliance with this policy.
