Policy Statement:

The Board is committed to ensuring high student achievement and has the responsibility to provide learning experiences that will prepare students academically, socially and emotionally for citizenship, lifelong learning and entry into the workplace or post-secondary studies. In addition to meeting provincial graduation requirements, it is expected that division students will be caring, compassionate, respectful and responsible individuals who think clearly, feel deeply, act wisely, continue to learn, and possess desirable employability traits.

The division also has a legislated responsibility to be accountable for student learning. The Board, Superintendent, non-parent taxpayers, parents and the general public are entitled to appropriate information about the progress of students in Palliser Regional Schools. Such information is fundamental to the principles of accountability and improvement planning and therefore integral to the democratic governance of publicly funded schools. To meet provincial accountability requirements and provide a broader picture of student, school and school system performance, the division will include both academic achievement and personal development in its planning, monitoring and reporting efforts.

Board Action:

The Board of Trustees directs that the Superintendent shall ensure that in consultations with individual Schools:

  1. All division schools regularly use a variety of indicators to provide information about student performance, and use that information for improvement planning.
  2. All school and division planning and reporting documents, shall address the accountability pillar measures.
  3. The Board shall annually review student achievement results and long term trends.

Scope and Limitations of Superintendent:
This is set out in the policy.

Information and Monitoring Requirements:
The Board shall annually review Student Achievement results and long term trends.
