School council representatives from across Palliser Regional Schools had an opportunity to participate in an evening of learning about productive school council meetings Tuesday.

Facilitators from the Alberta School Councils’ Association held simultaneous 90-minute workshops in Lethbridge, Vulcan and Calgary. The topic of the workshop was the result of a survey of school council chairs and principals conducted last spring.

In Lethbridge, facilitator Tasha Schindel opened the workshop by encouraging participants to access the association’s many services which include webinars, resources such as the downloadable School Council Resource Guide, and advocacy on behalf of Alberta’s parents. She noted Palliser pays for each of its school council’s membership in ASCA, something not all divisions do. With membership. councils can access services such as workshops free of charge.

The association has workshops tailored to division-wide gatherings, individual school councils and fundraising associations.

The workshops in Palliser were attended by members of school council executives, principals, trustees and Palliser’s Central Office administrators.
