Mike Thiesen
Area Director
Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Providence University College, a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (Old Testament) from Providence Theological Seminary, a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) from the University of Winnipeg, and a Bachelor of Arts (History) from the University of Winnipeg.
Mike was a principal for 21 years; first in a rural Manitoba community school setting with a significant Low German Mennonite population, before joining Palliser as principal at Calgary Christian Elementary School in 2016. He accepted the role of Area Director for the Calgary Region in 2022. He brings expertise in the areas of literacy, numeracy, parenting programs, report cards, social-emotional learning, school-wide behavior programs, and English Language Learning. His passion is particularly in the areas of Curriculum and Instruction.
Mike provides leadership in the following areas:
- Onboarding of Substitute Teachers and Casual Support Staff
- ELL Support
- Curriculum Support
- Procedures - ensure updated, reviewed, and meet all legal requirements
- Data Analytics
- Support curriculum and assessment reporting using Edsby
- Support in capacity building on Assessment tracking measures
- School code of conduct reviews and alignment with Division APs
- Site Assurance framework alignment
