The students' union at Arrowwood Community School recently donated $300 and a bundle of school supplies to Willow Park School in Calgary. About 650 students from the southwest Calgary school were forced to relocate to a community centre after a suspicious fire at the school in the early hours of Oct. 9.
The scenario is a familiar one to students and staff at Arrowwood Community School. That school was heavily damaged by arson in April 2012, and students at the school were relocated to a community centre for several weeks, then moved again to portable classrooms until the school building could be restored.
In the wake of the Arrowwood fire, people from across Alberta and beyond sent donations that helped keep the school running.
"This was our opportunity to pay it forward," says Principal Jody Beagle.
Earlier, the school donated more than $400 to Holy Spirit Academy, an elementary school in High River that was devastated by the flood in June. Grade 1 students raised the money through the sale of their artwork and through the collection of change.
