At a special meeting Thursday, April 14, the Palliser Board of Trustees passed Policy 17: Safe and Caring Learning Environments.

The passage followed consultation with school councils, staff, parents and other stakeholders.

The policy differs from the circulated draft in that it adds reference to families "including but not limited to parents and/or guardian," in acknowledgement of the role of the parent/guardian as first educator. The policy also includes links to several Administrative Procedures that relate to ensuring safe and caring schools.

A draft of the policy was submitted to Alberta Education for review in late March. The final version will now be forwarded to the department.
