At Palliser School Division, we know that excellence comes in many forms, in acts of leadership, personal growth, kindness, service, and resilience. That’s why we are proud to introduce our new Student of the Month recognition program.
Each month, we’ll shine a spotlight on students from across the division who embody the values that make our school communities strong. This initiative celebrates not only academic achievement but also the unique journeys, challenges, and contributions of our students, whether in the classroom, on the field, in service, or through personal perseverance.
We are excited to begin this new tradition by honouring two exceptional students whose dedication and leadership are truly inspiring.
September Students of the Month: Kade and Karter Van Buuren
Coaldale Prairie Winds Fire & Emergency Services Academy
When Kade and Karter Van Buuren signed up for the Coaldale Prairie Winds Fire & Emergency Services Academy, they didn’t quite know what to expect. Encouraged by their friend and former coach Ethan, the brothers took a leap and have since emerged as standout leaders in the program.
Over the past year, they’ve completed rigorous weekly training, participated in a summer internship with Coaldale Fire, and built meaningful connections with peers and mentors. Most recently, they represented Palliser at the Futures on Fire Conference in Edmonton, competing alongside 60 cadets from across Alberta. Not only did they break time records and lead teams, but they also stepped into mentorship roles with integrity, confidence, and humility.
Their Off-Campus teacher, Ginny Bergsma, shared:
“Kade and Karter have shown growth and dedication in their time with Fire Academy. With each challenge and training session, they applied excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities... They’ve mastered essential time management, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills... I have no doubt they will continue to succeed.”
Palliser School Division is proud to recognize Kade and Karter Van Buuren as our inaugural Students of the Month for September. Their commitment to growth, service, and community leadership exemplifies the spirit of this new recognition program.
