Palliser Regional Schools Superintendent Kevin Gietz is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Braun as the division’s Corporate Treasurer, effective July 14, 2014.

Braun has his certified management accountant (CMA) designation and 22 years of senior educational finance experience as either chief financial officer or senior financial officer with four different school jurisdictions in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and five years with Alberta Education’s school reporting branch and school finance branch in a director role. His most recent post with a school board was with the Calgary Board of Education where he was responsible for a $1.2-billion budget.

“I am absolutely thrilled that Wayne is joining the Central Office leadership team in Palliser,” said Gietz. “He brings an extraordinary wealth of experience and knowledge for the benefit of students and staff across the division. He will be an amazing mentor to our Finance Services staff. ”

The recruitment drive for this position was facilitated by Dr. Leroy Sloan of the Alberta School Boards Association, on behalf of Palliser.

Braun also spent two years in senior finance roles for non-profit organizations, but his heart is in schools where his role supports the learning needs of children and ensuring educational opportunities exist for all students, regardless of where they live.

“Palliser Regional Schools has demonstrated this very principle through their resource allocation and budgeting process, and I am pleased to be able to be a part of this winning team,” Braun said. “My desire is to provide strong leadership through a finance team that clearly understands its supportive role in the division.”

Braun and his wife Judi have three adult children. They are looking forward to moving to Lethbridge where two of their six grandchildren live. Outside of work, Wayne enjoys reading, golfing and hiking.
