Palliser Regional Schools Superintendent Kevin Gietz is pleased to announce Ken Garinger as the division’s new Associate Superintendent (Human Resources), effective April 22, 2014. He currently serves as principal of County Central High School in Vulcan.
“Ken will bring to Central Office tremendous strength as an educational leader which will serve him well in recruiting and offering ongoing support to our team of excellent teachers and support staff,” said Gietz. “He has a strong background in assessment for learning and literacy which are key to continued success for our students.”
Ken brings to the new position nearly 16 years of experience in school leadership, nearly eight of them at County Central High in Vulcan as part of a 23-year teaching career. Since February 2014, he has divided his time between the school and duties leading Palliser’s technology services team.
He completed his bachelor of education (mathematics) at the University of Saskatchewan in 1991, and earned his master’s in educational/instructional technology from the University of Calgary in 2011. Ken’s educational leadership and excellent support of student learning was acknowledged with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012.
“I have been very fortunate in my career to have opportunity to support the growth of teachers and learning of students in a school,” Ken said. “This new role presents an opportunity to support the great work of administrators and teachers throughout a tremendous school division. I am looking forward to this new challenge in my professional life and to building relationships with all personnel in Palliser.”
Ken was the successful candidate following an internal and external recruitment process led by Dr. Leroy Sloan of the Alberta School Boards Association.
He assumes the role being vacated by Kevin Garinger, who was recently named Director of Education/CEO of Horizon School Division in East Central Saskatchewan. Kevin begins his new role on June 1, 2014. Kevin and Ken are twins.
“We are thrilled that Ken is joining the Central Office senior leadership team,” said Board Chair Colleen Deitz. “As a Board, we participated in the interview process in an advisory capacity to the superintendent. We met with several excellent candidates. Ken is an outstanding choice for this key role in our organization. We have every confidence in his abilities.”
Ken and wife Jennifer have three children. Son Maddison and daughter Jordyn graduated from County Central High School. Youngest son Houston is in Grade 11 at CCHS.
