Palliser Regional Schools and Siksika Nation Board of Education signed an interim agreement for 2013-2014, based on the same terms of the historic agreement the two organizations signed in March 2012.
That three-year agreement applied to the 2010-2011 through 2012-2013 school years. It was the first agreement between Palliser and Siksika since the original arrangement signed by the County of Vulcan and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1971 setting out the terms for education of students from Siksika in what's now known as Palliser Regional Schools.
The new one-year agreement was signed Monday by Palliser Board Chair Colleen Deitz and Superintendent Kevin Gietz, as well as Siksika Councillor Hector Winnipeg Jr. and Siksika Board of Education Assistant Superintendent Lenora Rabbit Carrier.
Siksika and Palliser share a long history of students from the First Nation attending school in Milo and Arrowwood.
