The sounds of hammers and power tools invaded the air space at Noble Central School this week.
Modernization of the Palliser school won’t officially start for a few more days, but the division’s Facilities Services staff was busy getting things ready for the project’s contractor.
The province has approved the tender received from Lear Construction Management Ltd. and Palliser is in the process of finalizing required contract documents with them. Construction is scheduled to start in early February.
The staff was constructing temporary classrooms and a new office in the gym and elsewhere to allow learning to continue while the renovations are underway. Parents were involved in a meeting recently to discuss the plan for relocating classrooms during construction.
The primary goal of the$8-million modernization project is to ensure the school is accessible to students and staff with mobility challenges.
With the gym used for classrooms, students will use the Community Centre on a rental basis to remain active. The project should be completed by the start of the 2017-18 school year.
