Two of six trustee seats are up for election

There will be elections in two of six subdivisions next month, as two incumbents on the Palliser Regional Schools Board of Trustees chose not to seek re-election.

Elections will be held in Ward 1, Subdivision 2, representing the Town of Coaldale, and Ward 1, Subdivision 4, representing the County of Lethbridge surrounding and including the communities of Picture Butte and Iron Springs. Maps to the wards and subdivisions are online.

Seeking election are:

Ward 1, Subdivision 2, Town of Coaldale
Heather Lee
Debbie Laturnus

Ward 1 Subdivision 4, County of Lethbridge, including the communities of Picture Butte and Iron Springs
Joan Boras
Terry Whitehead

Trustees Jean Mrak (Town of Coaldale) and Joe Watson (Picture Butte and area) did not seek re-election. Mrak had served on the board for the past nine years. Watson had represented the Picture Butte area for the past 15 years.

Four incumbents allowed their names to stand for another term and face no challengers. They are:

Ward 1, Subdivision 1, Southern part of the County of Lethbridge, outside the City of Lethbridge and Town of Coaldale
Esther Willms. Willms was first elected to the board in October 2004.

Ward 1, Subdivision 3, County of Lethbridge including the communities of Coalhurst, Nobleford and Barons
Don Zech. Zech was first elected to the board in October 2001.

Zech has been trustee for the area since October 2001.
Ward 2, Subdivision 1, Vulcan County east of Highway 23/24, including the communities of Arrowwood, Milo and Champion
Colleen Deitz. Deitz was first elected to the board in October 1998.

Ward 2, Subdivision 2, Vulcan County west and south of Highway 23/24, including the Town of Vulcan
Robert Strauss. Strauss has been a trustee since October 2002.
