The Board of Trustees of Palliser Regional Schools recognized staff who received or were nominated for awards related to their work. This year’s awards dinner featured a wide range of skills and efforts, from citizenship to sports and communications to transportation.

Examples of excellence in teaching and commitment to students were plentiful as principals introduced their award-worthy teachers. They were: Sydney Moore, a first-year teacher from Noble Central School who was a finalist for the Alberta School Boards Association Edwin Parr Award; and fellow Edwin Parr nominees Casey Scheidegger of Barons Schools; Joy Willems of Jennie Emery Elementary School; and Stephanie Krammer of Palliser Beyond Borders online school. In keeping with her school’s focus on online learning, Krammer joined the event by phone as Principal Alison Hancox shared videos from the event.

Nicole Kaminski was recognized for being named Coaldale Citizen of the Year for her outstanding work at Jennie Emery Elementary School that extends well beyond the walls of the school.

Bernadette Kirk, a teacher at Milo School, Heather Williams, from Arrowwood Community School, and Glenda Jullion, vice-principal at Calgary Christian Secondary School, were nominated for the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Stephen Ward, a teacher at Heritage Christian Academy, was nominated for the Alberta Novice Football Coach of the Year award, following the school’s first year with a football program.

Central Office staff receiving acknowledgement were: Associate Superintendent (Education Services) Pat Rivard for his Outstanding Leadership Award from the Canadian Centre for Threat Assessment; Dave Shaw, Transportation Services Supervisor, who was acknowledged by the Navy League Cadets, Lethbridge Branch, for service to the community group, among some 350 community trips booked on Palliser’ fleet; and Communications Officer Dawn Sugimoto for her work on the division’s website which won a “Best in Class” award in the education category from the Interactive Media Awards.

Congratulations to all the members of the Palliser team acknowledged with awards this year!
