Student voice is essential to a strong, robust education system and Alberta's government believes student voices should play a role in shaping it. The Minister's Youth Council is a 41-member council that works at the provincial level to share diverse student perspectives and provide input on education topics. Council members bring a broad and diverse range of life experiences, knowledge and skills from across the province. Alberta Education was thrilled to receive 163 applications from junior and senior high school students across Alberta interested in becoming members of the Minister’s Youth Council for the 2022-2023 school year. The Palliser School Division is happy to share that student, Mariam Harran, Calgary Islamic School, Omar Bin Al-Khattab Campus, was selected as a member of the council for the next school year. Mariam will attend three meetings throughout the school year where she and her fellow council members will be given the opportunity to make a real impact on Alberta’s education system, build their leadership skills and leave a legacy that will last for generations to come.
