A candidate is still required for one of six positions on the Palliser Regional Schools Board of Trustees.
Nomination day Monday, Sept. 18 saw papers filed for all wards with the exception of Ward 1, Subdivision 3, which takes in the rural area of Lethbridge County including Coalhurst, Nobleford and Barons. Incumbent Trustee Don Zech is not running for another term.
The vacancy in that ward will see nominations accepted again Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Palliser Education Centre at 3305 18 Ave. N. in Lethbridge.
Nominations in the other wards within Palliser Regional Schools’ boundaries closed Monday at noon. If unofficial results stand come Tuesday at noon – no new nominations can be filed, but those who did file nomination papers have 24 hours to withdraw – there will be elections in two other wards, with candidates winning the three others by acclamation.
Ward 1, Subdivision 4 takes in the area surrounding the communities of Picture Butte and Iron Springs. Having filed nomination papers are incumbent Trustee Craig Whitehead and challenger Donald Michael Boras.
Ward 2, Subdivision 1 includes Vulcan County east of Highways 23/24 including Arrowwood, Milo and Champion. Having filed nomination papers are challengers Lorelei Emilie Bexte and Marilyn Fay MacArthur. Incumbent Trustee Colleen Deitz is not running for another term.
Winning by acclamation in Ward 2, Subdivision 2, was incumbent Trustee Robert Strauss. He was the lone candidate for the area of Vulcan Country west and south of Highways 23/24.
Winning by acclamation in Ward 1, Subdivision 2, Town of Coaldale, was incumbent Trustee Debbie Laturnus.
Winning by acclamation in Ward 1, Subdivision 1 was newcomer Sharon May Rutledge. Incumbent Trustee Esther Willms, who had represented the south end of Lethbridge County outside the City of Lethbridge and Town of Coaldale, is not running for another term.
Election Day across the province is set for Oct. 16.
