STAFFING ANNOUNCEMENT - VULCAN PRAIRIEVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VICE-PRINCIPAL

We are pleased to announce that Deanna Smith has accepted the role of Vice-Principal at Vulcan  Prairieview Elementary School, commencing August 22, 2022.  

Deanna grew up in Bentley, Alberta, and is the oldest of 4 children. She moved to Lethbridge in 2000 to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree (English) in 2004 from the University of Lethbridge and later received her Bachelor of Education, focusing on Drama and CTS in 2005. She is presently working on her Master's level courses through Queens University. 

After obtaining her degrees, Deanna subbed in Australia for a year covering all grade levels and subjects, including Italian. Starting with the Division in 2007, Deanna has taught at RI Baker Middle  School, various subjects and levels such as Grade 7 and 8 Language Arts, Social Studies, Health and  CTS courses for Grades 5 and 6. 

Married to Jeff for 15 years, they have a son in elementary school and are busy with many sporting activities and the family pets. In her free time, Deanna enjoys painting and reading and she also loves to discuss books and life with her book club. 

“My leadership philosophy focuses on the idea of collaborative problem solving through appreciative  inquiry - what are our strengths as a team, and how can we use our strengths to solve any problems  we are facing?” 

Excited to start this leadership journey at Vulcan Prarieview Elementary School, Deanna is looking forward to getting to know all the students, staff and parents of the VPES community. She is keen on fostering curiosity and passion for learners that will create solid foundations for young students.
