The Palliser School Division is pleased to announce that Thomas Currie has accepted the role of Vice-Principal at Calgary Christian Secondary School, commencing August 25, 2021, for the 2021-2022 school year.

Tom completed his Bachelor of Applied & Environmental Geology with a minor in Earth Science from the University of Calgary in 2000.  In early 2007, he earned a Bachelor of Education specializing in Secondary, also from the University of Calgary.  Tom later completed a Master of Education from the University of Saskatchewan in 2019, emphasizing Educational Technology and Design.

In 2007, Tom accepted his first full-time assignment at Glenmore Christian Academy. Teaching primarily Grade 8 and 9 Science, Tom also taught Drama, CTS, and Bible studies until June 2012.  For the 2013-14 school year, Tom worked with the Alberta Christian Online School to teach and develop resources for Science, Social Studies, and Drama.  Tom is presently teaching with Westmount Charter School and has been developing and implementing design-based strategies for curriculum support and classroom development for gifted students since 2014.

“When it comes to learning,” he notes, “I find myself relaying the metaphor of a mountain hike to my students.  We arrive together, prepared for the unpredictability of the weather and with a sense of destination.  We won't all agree on what amounts to a successful hike but, if we do the work to choose great paths, we can agree that all can do it, it will be work, and in the end, it will be the stories we tell each other about what we saw, heard, and overcame together that will be worth celebrating.  At this point, someone will ask, "Will this be on the test?" and we sigh and laugh.  Honestly, I think of leadership the same way.”

Married with three children, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, especially when their activities involve exploration, play, and creativity.  Tom has had many vocations in addition to his teaching career from professional geologist to play-write and traveling artist.

He is very excited about the opportunity to join the Calgary Christian team and looks forward to building strong relationships with the students, families, and Calgary Christian community at large.
