The Board of Trustees of Palliser Regional Schools has awarded a contract for facilitator services to help support implementation of recommendations in the 2016 Organizational Review.
At a special meeting Jan. 10, the board accepted an amended proposal from Dr. Terence Weninger, who will focus his work on recommendations related to governance. In particular, he proposed a series of facilitated workshops with the board between January and March to:
- Define the role of the Board;
- Define the role of the Superintendent;
- Define the role of Board Members;
- Establish a 3-6-9-12 month agenda, outlining expected outcomes and responsibilities, and establishing a progress reporting schedule on all 21 recommendations;
- Establish a policy for evaluation of the Board;
- Establish a policy for evaluation of individual Board members;
- Establish a policy for evaluation of the Superintendent;
- Develop other Board policies, such as
- Personal use of Palliser vehicles
- Purchase and use of alcohol at school division functions
- The Office of the Ombudsman
- Off duty conduct of Board members and employees.
Dr. Weninger has an extensive background in education, having served as Yukon’s Deputy Minister of Education. He also has led post-secondary institutions, including as president of the College of New Caledonia and Yukon College. He has expertise in board governance, presenting provincially and nationally on the subject.
Earlier Dr. Weninger was one of two independent consultants selected to conduct the Palliser Organizational Review which took place between May and October 2016.
The cost of the facilitation services will not exceed $37,500, plus GST.
